Fan Creation: Jetfire The Walking Lawsuit

A Transformers site called Lili Formers created a small comic strip/image related to the Jetfire and his similar appearance to the Robotech Veritech. This goes back to 1985 when Hasbro imported the Bandai Macross 1/55 Valkyrie toy as a Transformer. Harmony Gold sued and forced them to remove it. However, recently they have released a new Jetfire toy that attempts to reflect both the original valkyrie and skyfire from the show. Darkwater spoke about it on his blog about how it can unofficially transform to guardian mode. This comic picture reflects that.

Check it out here: http://www.lilformers.com/comic0018.php

Thanks Bryan

Who said that Harmony Gold sued Hasbro? Hasbro continued to sell Jetfire in its third annual lineup, even though it dropped eight toys which debuted the same time as Jetifre. In that same timeframe, Harmony Gold was gutting its Robotech unit after the failure of Robotech the Movie and the Sentinels.

Harmony Gold did sue FASA over Battletech, and that is a matter of public record. But the Harmony Gold & Playmates v. FASA & Virtual World lawsuits were nearly a decade later in 1995. There is no record of Harmony Gold suing Hasbro over Jetfire in the 1980s, 1990s, or any time period.

The Transformers animation did have to redesign Jetifre, but for the same reason that the Sentinels had to redesign the characters and the factory from Macross--to prevent a potential lawsuit, not to end an exisiting lawsuit.
