A New Era of Uncertainty

It's true I've been out of the loop since July 1st. It seems a lot of major things have happened in a very short time. In reality, it's been happening without our knowing it. Robotech as a whole has been slowing down and the activity has been dying. Robotech as a product is not regenerating like it should either. Shadow Chronicles was meant to, but as events unfold, this may not be the case.

If you read the post below this, Khyron Prime, the first fan I know of, has actually attacked Harmony Gold physically. Ok, it was a pie, but it was something unheard of. Beyond this fact is something more serious. In the Anime News Network article, it states that Tom Bateman along with Alan Letz no longer work for Harmony Gold. I don't know if they were fired or laid off, but this is important. Tom Bateman was a major part of the Robotech department for us fans. He was someone who truly believed in the Robotech series and the Robotech brand. He was a major link of true fan communication between us and the company. Tom also helped Shadow Chronicles be a better Robotech product than it might have been, even if people still didn't like the final result. Whatever you think, this will cause a major shift in the future of Robotech. I will greatly miss Tom as a fan-friendly member of Harmony Gold. Hopefully he will stick around in the fandom and be a strong influence for Robotech.

It's sad to say, but Robotech just isn't what it was. The TV series will always be great, but it's the community and the world around it that made it last. I been a fan for over 9 years, and I think the hardcore flame in me is slowly cooling off. I still love Robotech, but I'm saddened by the last year or two worth of it's life.

I will like to give notice to Captain JLS' blog: http://sdf5x.blogspot.com/
He does a much better job at reporting common news and keeping up with things. JLS' video blogs are excellent as well.

I have decided to allow Captain JLS to take major coverage of popular and common news on his blog. He already does this and should continue to do a good job that he does. I will focus more on what he has missed and uncommon things. This does not mean my blog is dead. Please continue to send me your project news submissions and other things. I will continue to post about Robotech and the community. The only difference is that I will allow JLS to take the lead with the common news while I focus more on other articles in Robotech.

Let Robotech live. The fans is all it has.

Hey Masters, long time no update. Definitely going to be watching this place again.

I've been reading articles in the net and even in my local newspaper - about the explosive growth of anime and manga worldwide. Certain anime boards are brimming with fan activity and such. New fans are a highly visible lot, which clearly shows the growing strength of the industry.

However, if we look at Robotech. Beyond the official forum, everything is quite dead, or in an Intensive Care Unit. The passion indeed seems to have subsided from most fans, and the dismissal of Tom Bateman is really not helping matters. People across the boards always talk about him as "A man of the people", the guy who listened and gave fans what they wanted at the behest of his overlords - I don't know much about him (beyond what is mentioned) since I am a fairly new fan - but I believe he was the one who provided interesting twists in the production of the comics beyond rehashing storylines.

What is the problem? Why isn't Shadows igniting more interest in the franchise beyond people complementing Tommy Yune for accomplishing the "impossible"?

REGARDING THE FUTURE OF THE SHADOWS FRANCHISE

Personally, I think Tommy Yune should redouble his efforts. A loss of a true fan working in the business does not inspire confidence in the sequel to the Shadows franchise. Why? Look at Tommy's storytelling efforts - the comic books. Uninspiring and redundant tripe beyond the contributions of Tom Bateman.

Should Tommy's works in the comic books be the basis for his possible storytelling techniques for the sequel? I'd like to believe so - look at Shadows - as a film, it felt fairly amateurish in terms of direction of the story. A sign of things to come? Heh, only if Tommy would relinquish directing duties and hire better writers.

"That was too easy!" - Marcus Rush

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to say what I feel about the whole situation.

BAH. You are going to let someone who is promoting Shadow Chronicles in the same booth than Tommy Yune cover the Robotech news?

This new move of the site's is kind of lame. I was hoping I could count on this site for all Robotech news, common and uncommon, after Darkwater's stopped. Darkwater wouldn't quit so easily. Oh well. You are your own person too.

WTF??..... How come JLS is making objective Robotech news??

If i were you... i would TAKE THE LEAD.... ANd not let robotech news become one sided...

What happens to people whos opinion differs from the official..

Anonymous said...

Personally i think all 3 - Tommy, Steve and Kevin...should go away..

And let new people take the lead. Ever since they took over robotech it started going down the drain...

Masters.. Heh i guess you are getting off as well..

You know maybe we should all just leave. And let them be.

I mean If someone thinks this is the best thing to do with robotechs future..then the someone has some serious problems...

Robotech is at its worst days right now. And all hopes for any change are dwindling. And it all makes me very sad.

Worst days? No hope? We just got the first new animation in decades, they're working on more, a beta, a freakin BETA toy is coming out, as well as Cyclones (what I've personally been waiting for). Hardly the worst times! Worst times were when NOTHING was being made or done. This site has nothing but pessimists! I'm not happy to hear Tom Bateman is gone, but come on, no need to be so dramatic.

Anonymous said...

Pesimists.. Hardly. Just people who have been around for some time...and can see what IS comming.

So far my predictions are perfectly acurate( TSC sucks, no new sequel before 2009, No series made, No international release of the so called NEW ANIMATION, No Marketing whatsoever...)

>We just got the first new animation in decades> - If something animated by 3 men, with horrible plot is a GOOD thing... well then as i said something is wrong with the one thinging that...

Sorry pal..... as i see it. NOT GOOD

medguy robotech biggest problem is the fans to be
perfectly honest we anime fans we still find it amusing that they are fans who look up to HG for any
new robotech stuff, to perfectly honestly
the show you guys enjoy in the 1985 you really
do not need HG, what did HG create, They can not even create their own original designs or their own mecha for example
why would you want to create a show with characters who are not that
marketable anymore or showing Minmey with lancer together just to convince people that macross, southern cross, mospeada it
just one show.

We can take the zillion anime as example there are fans who want the zillion anime to be made again but with the same zillion anime characters such jj or apple but the question why should we bring the old characters on creating a new zillion anime, which is much better to create a
new series which has the feel, and enjoyment of zillion, the show does not have to be called zillion the same for robotech create a show which has feel and enjoyment
as robotech and that does have to be called robotech.

I find amusing when some hardcore fans become a little extreme failing to reason like for example while watching yukikaze, if yukikaze as show was simply changed to robotech would more fans watch it just because it has
robotech name it is stupid, fans are still trapped on their delusional nostagalic feeling, i mean at least
grow up it is not the 1985 it is now 2007.

Robotech had 20 years at least to prove itself when
you hear Tommy calling TSC something different then
why the hell is it using designs from mospeada,
mecha, battle armour etc. etc

When you know robotech was a combination of macross,
southern cross, mospeada, then add yukikaze to it
and just call it robotech fans will fans become happy. That is stupid. Nenojac has great idea with his robotech genesis but if i was him simply drop the robotech name and add some new mecha.
Old robotech fans need to grow in these generations
nobody is going to approve of what robotech did
nobody will approve it simply dead and buried just
another crap.

One thing which robotech fans do not understand is
that fans can take away the rights of robotech from
HG, and take the show in the direction which they
want, any person with business common sense understand that but shows that as the casual robotech fan is not
more intersted anymore in investing or wasting is time with anything related robotech. Why would you pay for a robotech
license when the show is just a ripoff we might as well take Fullmetal alchemist and call it robotech in the era
of the alchemist tirol period, you get it as a tv network executive why would I waste a dime on robotech, when it is more practical just to invest more on naruto.

The people still running the franchise still have that old dinosaur mentality it is not the golden girls, we know the
A TEAM was cool but now we are in the future. just look at transformers able to revive itself and now a hit, it show HG management lacks quality simply they suck, as a great rule
as chef in kitchen says, always make food which the customer wants, not what you want to eat, but in the case HG they make product to satisfy their egos if you do not make products which customer wants how you going to continue to stay afloat.

It simply spells doom or disaster.

Apparently, so do you. Care to share? Or does Harmony Gold make you guys bow-down to photographs of Tommy and Steve and pledge an oath of fealty to their dumbassed purposes?

ChrisK said...

To Mr. McHenry.

Do not feed the troll. But hey guys, if you want to see how a "respected" commander of Robotech.com and Harmony Gold fandom becomes just some worthless punk who doesn't contribute anything worthwhile, go to RDF-HQ boards. The man actually signed up on that board just to say what he is saying now.

I think their in trouble. I'm not sure who runs Harmony Gold, but i think it took too long put the RSC out in first place. Making me wonder if HG made money from it.

If it DID fail to make money, then i'd say it would have been valid reason to can Bateman and his assoicate. We may never know unless the former employees of HG would say something without having to be worried about being sued.

I guess its wait and see thing.
